The Persian text of the Maqâlât is an exceptional case for an ancient period, but it is the direct teaching of an extraordinary master, a teaching restored through the notes taken by his disciples. Notes reread by the master, but lost for more than six centuries. From Tabriz, at the time when the Mongols threatened the Sultanate of the Turks of Anatolia, Shams joined, in Konya, Mowlânâ Jâlal al-din Rûmi. The two spent twenty months together, between 1244 and 1247. The immense poem of Mowlânâ, resulting from this meeting, radiates, until today, from Central Asia to California. The disciples of Mowlânâ are the first whirling dervishes. For the first time translated into French, the Maqâlât manuscripts offer access to the spiritual thought of Shams, the master who transformed the life of Mowlâna Jalâl al-din Rûmi. A classic of Sufism.
