The story begins in 1979. Marjane is 9 years old. She dreams of her future, imagines herself a prophet. Raised by progressive, cultured and modern parents, she followed the events of the Islamist revolution and the fall of the Shah of Iran and saw her parents oppose the new regime, purges and political exiles.
